On With Broken Wings there are four different types of digimon you can control.
- Partner digimon
- Wild digimon
- Player partner digimon
- Captive digimon
your digimon can be from the following categories
dark area: mostly dark and sinister digimon
deep savers: mostly water-based digimon
dragon's roar: mostly dragon and reptile digimon
jungle trooper: mostly insectoid and vegetation digimon
metal empire: mostly machine and cyborg digimon
nature spirits: mostly beast, dragon and dinosaur digimon
nightmare soldiers: mostly evil, dark, night-based digimon
unknown: mostly digimon of unknown descent.
virus buster: mostly holy type digimon
wind guardians: mostly holy and bird digimon
The first type is partner digimon. Partner digimon are the digimon that you get after creating a digidestined character. When receiving a digimon, you can pick up to three of the above categories for your digimon to be chosen from, or you can choose to have a digimon from any category. You can also choose your own digimon, but it will put you into dept 30 post and your digimon partner will be in fresh form until you get to 31 posts. You cannot pick X digimon, you can only get them from a staff member.
The second type is wild digimon. Unlike most digimon forums, on With Broken Wings you can play a wild digimon that has either not met it's partner yet, or has no digidestined partner. You can choose your own digimon (except for X digimon) or you can have a staff member roll one for you. The catch with wild digimon however, is that they can't enter the human world. The only way for them to enter the human world is for them to become partner digimon.
The third type is player partner digimon. Partner digimon cannot be chosen unless they start off as a wild digimon or a captive digimon. When one player creates a digidestined whatever digimon is rolled for them is the digimon the other player must create and play. The same one person cannot play both the digidestined and the partner digimon in this way. The digimon can only become a partner to a digidestined.
The last type is captive digimon. In order to play a captive digimon a play must create a profile and have it approved. They must then find someone to buy their digimon as a partner for their character. Any human character can buy a captive digimon if they have enough money.
Humans can have more than one digimon here. However, you have to buy each addition digimon. Characters can have up to 3 digimon. They can either buy captive digimon at the shop or pay for an additional partner. Buying an additional partner means you can either randomly encounter a digimon in the digital world, buy an egg from the W.O.L.F shop, or have a player's wild digimon become a partner digimon. Player's wild digimon and captive digimon stay at the level they are when met, unless the player buying them is a higher level. In which case the player wild digimon will remain the same, but the captive digimon (unless played by a member) will take on the buyer's level. Random encounter and egg digimon will always take the players level.
Any time a staff member rolls a digimon for a player, that player gets one reroll. If they choose to reroll, they will be stuck with the second digimon rolled.
Digilines are completely up to the player. The only requirements are that you don't make an unrealistic digiline. Ex. tentomon -> Greymon. Also slide, armour, biomerge, etc. can be added to your digiline for free. The digiline can be changed at any time except a once a digimon has used its digivolution.
